Description
This magnificent Colonial Cabinet is a superb example of the Renaissance Revival style, dating from the late 19th to early 20th Century (c. 1880–1920). Expertly handcrafted from solid aged wood, the piece embodies the formal, layered elegance of European Classical design executed in durable Javanese teak.
The cabinet’s structure is highly architectural, defined by prominent, layered moulding and classical detailing. The upper section features ornamental pilasters (flat, column-like elements) and tiered cornice moulding that give the cabinet a refined, façade-like profile.
The central mid-section is the cabinet's defining feature, composed of two swing doors inset with original bevelled glass panes, providing a distinguished view of the interior shelving. Above this, a central original bevelled mirror is housed, defined by a graceful ogee arch, which beautifully catches the light.
The lower compartment offers a deep open storage recess. The durability of the old teak wood provides exceptional stability, complemented by original details like the antique keyhole plate.
This grand, substantial cabinet is ideal for use as a distinguished living room storage statement piece, a stately entryway piece, or a refined dining room hutch.
