This grand Art Deco Buffet with Marble is a magnificent statement piece, expertly handmade from old teak wood in Java. Firmly rooted in the formal Art Deco movement and dating from circa 1920s–1930s, it provides presence, bold symmetry, and architectural structure to the room.
The piece pays homage to the grand, formal aesthetic of celebrated French masters like Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Jules Leleu. The buffet's architectural form is defined by strong, bold lines and perfect symmetry, echoing the stepped setbacks of period skyscrapers and providing a powerful visual anchor.
The unit’s detailing speaks to its luxury: the countertop has been restored with a beautiful marble surface, offering a durable and opulent contrast to the rich patina of the teak. The buffet features two original bevelled oval mirrors that add light and classic Art Deco curve contrast.
The cabinet doors and drawers showcase a masterful blend of geometry and elegance: The upper sections feature original yellow-hued patterned glass in two rectangular panes, while the lower doors feature the same glass rendered in a distinctive scalloped or overlapping arc frieze. The original hardware is a sophisticated fusion, featuring original rosette backplates fitted with classic drop-ring pulls, as well as original floral keyhole plates.
Handmade from dense, old teak wood, this piece is perfect as a grand living room statement or a sophisticated addition to a dining area. Its vast scale and durable marble top make it ideal for displaying curated decorative pieces, or for hosting as a drinks mixing counter.
