Frequently Asked Questions
Delivery, furniture care, maintenance, and other questions we frequently get about our store.
How long does a delivery via your Online Shop take?
Upon checkout, our sales team will be in touch with you providing details of your delivery. Local deliveries typically take around 7 to 10 working days, though this is dependent on availability. Please see our Delivery and Storage page for more information.
I am not yet ready to take delivery. Are you able to hold it for me?
Yes we do offer complimentary storage for a limited period. See our Delivery and Storage page for more information.
I saw an item at your showroom but can't find it on the webshop. How do I order it?
If an item is not available on our Online Shop, but found on our catalogue, we will still be able to arrange a remote purchase, whereby payment is made via Bank Transfer. Drop our team a message via our contact form for more details.
How do I take care of my reclaimed wood furniture?
After dusting the surfaces and cleaning with a slightly damp cloth, we recommend keeping them well-moisturised with a good wax (like Gilly Stepenson’s cream polish with beeswax, that you can find at our showroom).
Apply the cream in light coats, and polish off buff with a soft lint-free cloth. You may repeat every 3 month in tropical/humid climate; more often in drier climates.
Sunlight is able to change the colour of the reclaimed wood to a silver grey patina. To prevent that, be sure to use curtains or blinds to regulate the sunlight falling on your furniture.
Do you buy second-hand furniture?
Our apologies, we do not.
Our vintage furniture collection is one-of-a-kind. These treasures are individually sourced through our travels.
These rare pieces adhere to a strict set of guidelines, as they date back to between 1920 and 1960, reflecting European design influences such as Art Deco, Mid-century Modern, and Dutch Colonial styles.
Besides the time taken to source these pieces, many man hours are also spent by master carpenters to gently restore and bring each piece back to its former glory.
Should I be concerned with watermarks on my wood table top?
There are different schools of thought with regards to watermarks.
Our furniture is meant to be used in the home; every mark and scuff adds to the character of the piece you choose.
This is why our collections are a popular choice for those without time on their hands (whether they are busy at work or with a growing family). Naturally, everyone wants to take care of their furniture as much as possible.
d-Bodhi furniture is a natural wood without any finish, which does require protection against water condensation from cold drinks.
The diligent use of absorbent coasters definitely prevents condensation from forming a watermark on your wood table.
Why is recycled teak so sought-after?
Wood breathes just like skin, and the moisture content causes expansion and contraction.
Recycled teak furniture usually contains much less moisture than those from fresh teak, and is thus more structurally sound and less likely to warp. The grain in recycled teak is often more pronounced and tighter, resulting is a more attractive wood.
It takes a concerted effort to obtain the right pieces of recycled teak for furniture, as these are sourced from structures like old buildings and railway sleepers.
The wood must be of the right size, and all foreign objects like nails and fittings must be removed by hand.
Of course, the biggest advantage of recycled teak is its eco friendliness.
New trees do not have to be harvested to build furniture, and demand for recycled wood also sets up sustainable local community networks.
I am moving to a temperate country. Will recycled wood furniture warp or crack?
If the wood furniture is either upcycled or recycled and constructed from old material, there is lesser moisture content. Thus the likelihood of expansion and contraction is also reduced.
However, wood is still a natural material, and we recommend that upon the first few weeks of arrival, you utilise a humidifier to help the wood adapt to the new, drier climate. Remember to keep it well moisturised with a good cream or wax.
Do you ship outside of Singapore?
Yes we do, though for large items we do not ship directly through our online shop. Drop us a note at our contact form and we'll be able to advise on shipping prices to your location.
What should I take note of when using a tempered glass table top?
Our tempered glass tops are made to withstand temperatures of up to 250 degrees celsius. If you are placing hot surfaces on it (e.g. a pot of hot soup), please do use a thick cork pad or trivet to help dissipate the heat.
While we recommend more care with a material such as glass, our ISO-compliant tempered glass is the safer alternative in as such that if it does break, it will do so in a way that doesn't cause serious issues.
Who is that cat that I see around your website?
Ginger was the Ambassador of Journey East, and was one of the longest-living cats we knew, delighting us for an amazing estimated 29 human years.
Ginger passed away peacefully in September 2019, though he will always live on in our hearts and memories. He was dearly loved, and we know he loved us very much too.
The beautiful moments of his life are still preserved on his Facebook account, as well as on Instagram.
