Description
This large-scale sculpture is a pure expression of natural form, defined by the deep, erratic ridging and voids of an eroded old-growth teak root. Unlike modern plantation timber, this monolith relies on decades of deep environmental weathering, where the softer sapwood has entirely eroded away to reveal a heavy, unyielding core of dense heartwood. The result is a dramatic, sweeping upward momentum with a surface map of unrepeatable textures shaped entirely by earth and time.
To ground this wild, organic shape, the timber is elevated on minimalist metal pins above a structured, two-tier base. The plinth plays heavily on material contrast: the top layer is cast from recycled sawdust suspended in acrylic, creating a warm, fibrous plane that mirrors the tones of the sculpture above. This sits atop a clean-lined, solid teak foundation. The juxtaposition between the untamed, raw root and the precise, geometric construction of the base turns the piece into a commanding, gallery-level focal point for a modern interior.
