The United Strangers Carlyle Dining Chair stands as an ode to 1970s Italian modernism—a movement that departed from the rigid, austere minimalism of early post-war design in favour of sensual forms, lounge-like proportions, and material richness. The aesthetic was defined by pairing mirror-finished metallic structures with voluptuous, leather-clad cushions, trading stark functionalism for relaxed, tactile luxury.
Carlyle captures that ethos through a continuous, cylindrical bolster that curves naturally around the sitter to unite backrest and arm support. Tailored in Saddle Camel full-grain aniline leather, the upholstery retains its authentic surface character, natural breathability, and supple handfeel. The padded arms wrap cleanly around the front vertical uprights, leaving the precision-curved metal tips exposed as a deliberate interplay between cold chrome reflection and warm, tactile hide.
Four slender polished stainless steel legs ground the piece, rising past the deep, squared seat cushion to elevate the floating back rail. The open framework allows light to pass through the dining space, offering the presence and comfort of an armchair without visual bulk.
