Midcentury Modern Sideboard

This compact sideboard is anchored by an exceptionally rare cut of old-growth solid teak: naturally occurring "tiger-striped" figure, known traditionally as doreng. These intense, high-contrast dark ribbons aren’t stained—they are dense mineral and resin deposits forged naturally within the heartwood over decades of growth cycles. It is the kind of expressive, one-of-a-kind timber master woodworkers reserved for special commissions, deliberately book-matching the wild grain across the drawer facades to give the piece a striking, graphic face.

The casework balances open display with concealed utility. On the left, paired sliding glass panels glide effortlessly on smooth tracks, providing a clean, two-tier vitrine to stage ceramics, prized glassware, or books without visual clutter or dust buildup.

The right side delivers the real visual punch: three stacked drawers cut with sharp, geometric outward-slanted faces. The canted panels catch ambient light from above to illuminate the tiger grain while dropping deep horizontal shadow lines beneath each level, giving the entire facade tangible depth and rhythm. Spun brass knobs and an original brass lock plate provide a crisp metallic counterpoint against the figured wood.

Lifted off the floor with tapered legs, this sideboard functions as a functional storage piece while maintaining an airy, sculptural presence in compact living spaces.
