Midcentury Modern Chair

Description

Defined by a dramatic gondola profile, this armless slipper chair translates early-1960s sculptural modernism into dense, heavy timber craft.

The visual anchor is its swooping solid timber chassis. Carved from thick, substantial hardwood stock, the side rails dip in a continuous, scooped arc below the seat before sweeping sharply upward to frame the backrest in a tall, tapered fin. At the front, the timber rises into an angled, winged prow that cups the seat cushion securely in place, keeping the wood frame visually distinct from the upholstery.

Freshly reupholstered in an animated, multi-colored chevron jacquard, the geometric zigzag weave brings texture and optic energy that complements the clean, warm grain of the wood frame. Below, the chair is elevated on a recessed underframe with short, sharply splayed peg legs that pitch outward to give the heavy, deep-seated silhouette a grounded and balanced stance.

Striking from the side profile, the Midcentury Modern Chair functions effortlessly as a sculptural accent chair for a lounge, reading nook, or bedroom.
