Named after Kyoto’s apprentice geishas, the Gangzai Maiko Rectangular Trinket Tray transforms traditional Japanese performing arts into an exercise in high-camp ornithology. Swathed in a heavily patterned crimson kimono and clutching a radial paper parasol (wagasa), an elegant entertainer poses mid-stride—only to reveal the head of a rather inquisitive, beady-eyed bird. The sharp saturation of lacquer reds, ivory folds, and gold detailing cuts cleanly across an emerald-green ground, framed by an elongated rim. Sized for jewellery, pens, or keys, it brings a rich, surreal slice of Gion street life to an entryway console or vanity.
