Description
This original colonial cabinet highlights the transition where forward-looking European modernism met regional Javanese woodworking. Wrapping the entire cornice, a dense band of dentil moulding has been hand-carved directly out of the solid teak, introducing crisp linear shadow along the top rim.
The facade is arranged into three distinct bays anchored by Art Deco Streamline Moderne detailing. Flanking both sides, the solid wood doors are fitted with pairs of raised, bullnosed "speed line" ribs that emphasize vertical height, complete with original inset brass pulls and keyways.
In the center, a three-quarter glass vitrine door provides an unobstructed view of the upper interior display above a solid recessed wood base panel. The rectilinear silhouette transitions into curved cabriole legs—a contrasting Neo-Renaissance influenced accent that balances the cabinet's clean, aerodynamic lines.
Behind the doors, deep solid teak shelving accommodates memorabilia, glassware, and sculptural decor, making this Dutch Art Deco cabinet a standout statement for the living room—a meeting point of Western design eras and Asian master craftsmanship.
