Description

The Colonial Side Table with Spiral Pedestal Leg is a refined example of the Indo-European synthesis that defined Javanese workshops in the 1920s. While the barley twist column and the ball feet are rooted in 17th-century European Baroque furniture, the execution belongs entirely to the regional artisanal tradition. Javanese woodworkers, particularly from the carving centers of Central Java, translated these rigid Western motifs into the local medium of solid aged teak.

The tabletop features a stylized floral rosette—a symmetrical arrangement of foliate scrolls that reflects the Neo-Renaissance influence brought to the East by the Dutch. To preserve the intricate relief of this carving, a custom-fitted piece of glass has been integrated onto the table top, transforming a delicate artisanal detail into a functional, durable surface.

Its ebonized colour modernizes the silhouette, emphasizing the graphic rhythm of the spiral pedestal and allowing the table to function as a sharp, authoritative accent in a contemporary interior.
