Art Deco Streamline Moderne Sideboard

A singular expression of the Streamline Moderne movement, this sideboard prioritizes structural simplicity and weighted geometry over applied ornament. Its silhouette is a direct translation of 1930s residential architecture, mirroring the horizontal, low-slung profiles of Art Deco housing. Constructed from solid timber, the piece showcases an expansive, expressive grain that wraps around its radiused edges, emphasizing a continuous, fluid form that rejects the rigid corners of traditional cabinetry.

The architecture of the sideboard is defined by an asymmetric, tiered layout—reminiscent of the setback balconies and ribbon windows characteristic of maritime-inspired residential design. Its most distinct feature is the deep, stadium-shaped open rack; a hollowed-out curve that creates a sense of lightness within the otherwise substantial timber mass. This element serves as a tactile focal point, providing a functional break in the facade while echoing the curved sun-rooms and integrated masonry of the era. The unit sits on a recessed plinth, giving the heavy, grounded frame a subtle, architectural lift.

Functional utility is built into the exceptional depth of the frame, featuring a configuration of cabinets and unusually long drawers. These elongated drawers are engineered to utilize the full, deep reach of the sideboard’s profile. Each storage swing door is punctuated by elegant brass knobs, providing a muted metallic contrast to the warm, matte finish of the wood.
