Description
Handcrafted in Indonesia during the late 20th-century Art Deco revival, this slender floor screen reinterprets the classic geometric glazing found in pre-war colonial architecture. The design draws directly from the balanced proportions of historical Dutch East Indies bovenlicht (transom windows), combining salvaged vintage patterned glass with a hand-built frame of solid aged teak.
The glass layout follows a disciplined, symmetrical composition. Concentric borders step inward from cobalt-blue corner accents and clear pressed floral glass to ruby-red corner blocks and an apple-green perimeter. Down the center, a vertical spine of stacked amber diamonds anchors the frosted field, adding upright rhythm and warmth to the tall silhouette. The relief surface of the four-petal Begonia glass catches natural light across its pressed face, diffusing direct sun into a dappled, jewel-toned glow while obscuring direct sightlines for privacy.
Finished with square-profile teak stiles and resting on integrated notched bracket feet, its narrow footprint allows it to stand securely without obstructing walkways. It functions naturally as a luminous privacy screen beside an entryway, a tailored light filter in front of a window, or a freestanding decorative installation.
