Description

Hand-built in Java, likely as a bespoke commission for a villa, this cabinet reflects the early wave of European Art Deco arriving in the Dutch East Indies during the late 1920s. The crown is defined by a stepped pediment centered with a carved sunray crest—a signature motif of the era symbolizing the dawn of modern design.

The upper half of the doors features tall oval apertures set with amber Morisco patterned glass, which softly diffuses incoming light while keeping interior contents discreetly concealed. Flush, straight-grain solid teak panels balance the lower half, framed cleanly and fitted with understated brass hardware.

Inside, three deep, full-width solid teak shelves provide generous clearance for glassware, ceramics, or collected tableware, while an integrated drawer built into the bottom plinth provides concealed storage for linens and smaller essentials. Grounded on a shaped bracket base, the cabinet delivers authentic colonial-era presence within a compact, upright footprint.
