This original Art Nouveau Dressing Table is expertly handcrafted entirely from solid aged teak wood in Java. Dating from the circa 1890s–1910s, this piece beautifully reflects the transitional period, where the flowing forms of Art Nouveau began to incorporate geometric elements.
The Art Nouveau Dressing Table features a stunning original bevelled mirror defined by a unique bell-curved outline, which provides an elegant focal point. Flanking the tabletop, decorative scroll-like volutes on each side provide a distinctive organic accent, reinforcing the traditional Art Nouveau preference for curved design.
Below, the mirror's curves contrast with the more disciplined structural elements: the center and side panels feature distinctive reeded chevron carvings, hinting at the emerging Art Deco geometry. The top set of drawers further feature a subtle pitched or slanted face, adding dynamic depth to the profile.
The most pronounced Art Nouveau feature is found at the base: the gracefully scrolling apron and stretcher that connects the legs. The depth of the old teak wood provides lasting quality and a rich patina, making this a rare and highly decorative accent piece for a bedroom or dressing room.
