This grand Art Nouveau Buffet is a spectacular example of Asian Art Nouveau style, expertly handcrafted from solid aged teak wood. Dating from the height of the movement, circa 1890s–1910s, it is defined by an intricate fusion of fluid lines and architectural structure.
The cabinet's structure provides a strong Neo-Renaissance architectural foundation: the top is defined by geometric shapes and layered moulding, creating a sophisticated and formal profile. This structured portion beautifully contrasts with the organic carving below. The cabinet is topped with a restored, polished marble countertop that adds opulence and utility.
The decoration is pure Art Nouveau: whiplash curves and stylized floral motifs are expertly hand-carved onto the two main door façades, flowing seamlessly into the decorative apron at the base. The overall curvilinear effect is reinforced by the beautifully sculpted volumetric curved side panels, giving the entire piece a fluid, organic feel. This naturalistic carving is echoed in the delicate balcony rail on the upper decorative shelves.
The upper section features a beautiful, multi-part mirror composition: a large central mirror with an elegant oval ogee top is flanked below by three smaller rectangular mirrors, adding light and dimension. Additional refined details include the three-line vertical cuts on the pilasters and the corresponding original brass hardware.
This magnificent piece is ideal as a formal living room sideboard that brings immediate grandeur and elegance to the home.
