Description
This rare Art Deco Cabinet from Southeast Asia, dating from circa 1930–1940, is a masterful study in geometric luxury. It represents a refined bridge between European Art Deco principles and Southeast Asian craftsmanship, likely commissioned for a grand villa in a major colonial city.
The cabinet’s core structure is built from solid aged teak wood, meticulously finished with a thick rosewood veneer. This provides immense structural integrity and a rich natural grain.
The piece is defined by its striking hexagonal architecture and the complex faceted cornice—a highly skilled detail that requires substantial material and craftsmanship to achieve. This elegant, architectural quality is evocative of the luxurious, geometric restraint seen in the work of French masters like Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann and Jules Leleu.
The front façade showcases refined detailing with alternating rosewood panels and slim stainless inlays. Two side doors open to reveal a practical, circular interior shelving system, where the shelves follow the hexagonal pattern of the frame to maximize usable space.
The doors are finished with tasteful, small square brass handles, adding a final touch of period luxury. An elegant, well-crafted piece, ideally suited for anchoring a salon or drawing room with vases or curated art objects within.
