This original Semarangan Art Nouveau Cabinet is a striking piece, dating from the height of the style (c. 1890s–1910s). Handcrafted entirely from solid aged teak wood, it perfectly captures the artistic blending of European design with Javanese craftsmanship. This piece exemplifies the unique Indies Art Nouveau style developed in major Dutch Colonial centers, where wealthy residents commissioned local artisans to fuse trends of the era with the dense, durable quality of old-growth teak.
The cabinet’s form is a showcase of the Art Nouveau aesthetic, characterized by sinuous lines and natural motifs. Its defining feature is the intricate grapevine motif carved onto the crested crown, symbolizing nature and organic flow.
The display sections are fitted with original vintage bevelled glass, adding an elegant, sparkling quality to the panels. Internally, the cabinet is thoughtfully designed: the upper section is perfectly sized for storing wine bottles, while the lower compartments are ideal for keeping wine glasses and bar accessories. This piece functions beautifully as a unique bar cabinet or display hutch, representing a rare and beautiful confluence of East and West.
