Description
The commanding presence of this 1930s Art Deco cabinet is established by its strict architectural crown. Designed with a stepped pediment that directly references the skyscraper silhouettes of the era, the upper volume asserts a disciplined, geometric authority. This structural precision continues downward into the glazed display section, which retains its original bevelled glass. Divided by slim vertical mullions, the transparent upper half provides a light, linear frame for objects while reducing the overall visual mass of the unit.
On the lower doors, the woodwork shifts into a calculated, rhythmic texture through the use of vertical chevron motifs. Executed by Javanese carpenters in solid teak, these hand-carved panels emphasize the piece's commitment to continuous, streamlined geometry over applied ornamentation. The entire structure is elevated by a bold industrial base: tubular, Machine Age C-scroll legs resting on stark block feet. This introduces a sharp metallic contrast to the timber, resulting in a substantial, high-capacity storage landmark that anchors a modern interior with uncompromising Art Deco lines.
