Art Deco Vanity with Oval Mirrors

Rarity and beauty

This item has been sold - thanks for your interest!

Maintained in immaculate original condition, this solid Teak Art Deco vanity is a masterwork from the 1920s.

The curves and form reference much of French Art Deco influences, with shapes that represent Art Deco's aspirations of modernity, embracing the cultural phenomenon of the machine-age with bold, strong lines. Art movements of the time such as Cubism and Orphism also bequeathed distinct geometrical influences, as seen in the impressive 'triumvirate' of the 3 oval mirrors.

Anchoring this statement is a robust base of two chests of drawers, each bearing original brass handles. The octagonal relief carving at the lower open shelf emphasises the symmetry of the piece, contrasting the largeness and magnitude of the Vanity dressing table with delicate angular motifs.

Circa 1920-1930s, sourced in Central Java.
